Why driveshaft balancing matters
A driveshaft spins up to 3–4 times faster than your wheels. A few grams out of balance at 2,500 RPM becomes a force that shakes the whole vehicle, hammers the U-joints and leaks transmission and pinion seals. Balancing is required after any driveshaft work: new U-joints, a new tube, a lift kit that changed the angles, or a shaft that was dropped or dented.
- Vibration or 'hum' that starts around 40–50 mph and grows with speed
- Vibration that stays the same whether you are accelerating or coasting
- A new vibration after U-joints were replaced somewhere else, or after a lift
- Shaft was dented, bent, or had a weight fall off (look for a bare spot on the tube)
How we balance a driveshaft
| Step | What we do |
|---|---|
| Inspection | Check U-joints, slip yoke play, center bearing and tube runout on a dial indicator. A bent tube can't be balanced — we tell you first. |
| Phasing | Verify the yokes are in phase (aligned). Out-of-phase shafts vibrate no matter how much weight you add. |
| Dynamic balancing | The shaft spins at high RPM on our balancer; sensors read the imbalance in two planes. |
| Correction | Precision weights are welded exactly where the machine indicates, then re-spun to confirm within tolerance. |
| Ready to install | You pick it up — usually the same day — and reinstall it or have your mechanic do it. |
Balancing vs. repair: which do you need?
If the U-joints are worn, balancing alone won't fix the vibration — we replace the joints first and balance after. If the tube is bent, we retube and balance. If the joints and tube are good and the vibration is speed-dependent, balancing is the fix. We check all of it before quoting, so you only pay for what the shaft actually needs. See driveshaft repair and the vibration guide.
Who brings us driveshafts to balance
Independent mechanics and dealerships across Miami-Dade and Broward, fleet operators (vans, box trucks, buses), off-road and lifted-truck builders, drag and street-performance owners, marine and industrial customers. We also balance driveshafts shipped to us from anywhere in Florida.
Frequently asked questions
How much does driveshaft balancing cost in Miami?
Balancing is one of the least expensive driveshaft services; the exact price depends on shaft length and whether it is one- or two-piece. Call (305) 766-7011 or send a photo on WhatsApp for a free quote.
Can you balance an aluminum or carbon fiber driveshaft?
Yes — steel, aluminum and carbon fiber, one-piece and two-piece, from compact cars to medium-duty trucks.
Do I need to balance after replacing U-joints?
Yes. New joints change the mass distribution; we balance every shaft we repair, and we recommend balancing any shaft whose joints were replaced elsewhere if it vibrates.
Can a bent driveshaft be balanced?
No. A bent tube must be straightened or replaced first; otherwise the balance only hides the problem at one speed. We measure runout before balancing and tell you which it needs.
Will balancing fix vibration from a lifted truck?
Only if the shaft itself is out of balance. Lift kits usually change the operating angle — the fix is a CV (double-cardan) driveshaft, a slip yoke eliminator, or a pinion-angle correction. We can build that shaft for you.
Do you install the driveshaft after balancing?
No. We service the part only; you or your mechanic remove and reinstall it. Most shafts come off with 4–8 bolts.
